  • 26 ounces frozen French fries Feel free to substitute with homemade fries.

For the cheese sauce

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 2 teaspoons ranch seasoning powder Can substitute if needed.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder Use more for additional heat.
  • 8 ounces white cheddar cheese, shredded Can experiment with different cheese varieties.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven or air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  • Arrange the frozen fries in a single layer on a baking sheet or in the air fryer basket.

Cooking the Fries

  • Bake until golden brown, following the package instructions.

Making the Cheese Sauce

  • While the fries cook, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Whisk in the flour until well combined, cooking for about 2 minutes.
  • Gradually add in the milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
  • Stir in the salt, ground white pepper, ranch seasoning, and half of the cayenne powder.
  • Lower the heat to medium-low and continue cooking until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the shredded white cheddar cheese until melted and creamy.

Serving

  • Once the fries are cooked, pour the cheese sauce generously over them and serve warm.

Notes

To serve, consider garnishing with fresh chopped green onions or extra ranch seasoning. Pair with tangy dipping sauces like ranch or aioli for additional flavor.
