Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef can substitute with ground turkey or chicken
  • 4 large sliced potatoes fresh preferred; frozen can be used as a shortcut
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella) you can experiment with other cheese varieties
  • 1 cup beef broth can substitute with vegetable broth for vegetarian option
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup can be replaced with homemade white sauce
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • optional garlic powder for additional flavor
  • optional paprika for extra taste

Instructions
 

Cooking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and onion over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • In a large bowl, mix the cooked beef with the cream of mushroom soup and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper.
  • In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, then half of the beef mixture, followed by a layer of cheese. Repeat the layers.
  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

You can serve this casserole directly from the baking dish. A side salad or steamed vegetables pair well with it. For storage, let it cool and transfer to an airtight container. It lasts in the fridge up to 3 days, or can be frozen for up to 3 months.
