  • 1 lb ground beef Ground beef can be substituted with ground turkey or chicken.
  • 1 onion, chopped Adds flavor to the dish.
  • 2 cups frozen French fries Use straight from the bag without thawing.
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded Other cheese types such as mozzarella or pepper jack can be used.
  • 1 cup cream of mushroom soup Can be substituted for cream of chicken or homemade white sauce.
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: pickles or ketchup for topping Customize with your favorite toppings.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet, cook the ground beef and onion over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion is translucent. Drain excess fat.
  • In a large bowl, mix the cooked beef and onion with the cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and pepper.

Assembly

  • Spread half of the frozen French fries in the bottom of a greased casserole dish.
  • Pour the beef mixture over the fries, then top with the remaining fries.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the fries are golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  • Let cool for a few minutes, serve with optional toppings if desired.

Notes

For a bit of spice, consider adding some diced jalapeños or hot sauce to the beef mixture. Make sure not to overcook the fries before adding them to the casserole to keep them crispy.
