  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or plant-based meat.
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups frozen French fries Fresh fries can be used but may need cooking time adjustment.
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup pickles, chopped (optional) For an extra tang.
  • Mustard (optional)

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet, brown the ground beef and onion over medium heat until the beef is cooked through. Don’t forget to drain excess fat!
  • Stir in the garlic powder, along with salt and pepper to taste.
  • In a large baking dish, spread the cooked beef mixture evenly across the bottom.
  • Layer the frozen French fries over the beef mixture, creating a crispy foundation.
  • Generously spread ketchup on top, followed by a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese.
  • If desired, add diced pickles and squirt on some mustard for an extra tang.
  • Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the fries are crispy and the cheese has melted into a glorious goo.
  • Serve hot and enjoy your comforting casserole!

Notes

Consider garnishing with sliced green onions or a dollop of sour cream. Pair with a simple salad or steamed veggies. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
